Giving is better than Receiving ~ A Piece of Our #DisneySide

Teaching Our Children to have a Giving #DisneySide
It is extremely important that our children learn to not simply receive, but to give. While we’re celebrating our daughter’s 6th Birthday at our #DisneySide Celebration, we’ve made it known that we do not want guests bringing her Birthday gifts. In lieu of gifts, we’re asking for optional item donations for a Honduras Missions team to hand out to the poverty-stricken citizens of Honduras in early March.

To give you an idea just what “poverty-stricken” means in this case… take a look at the Tegucigalpa city dump, where many adults and children live and work in the garbage. Below you’ll see a picture of a little girl (barefoot) working in the dump. It’s hard to see, but there are houses built out of garbage within the dump – just heartbreaking to know that living conditions like this really do exist.

The Missions Team we are supporting at our #DisneySide Celebration will be visiting this dump among other needy areas of Honduras, and we’d like to support them by donating the following suggested items:

  • Small-sized hygiene products (soap, shampoo, lotion, conditioner, toothpaste, mouthwash)
  • Toothbrushes, Combs, Bandaids
  • Small Toys (stuffed animals, small cars, bubbles, small balls)
  • School Supplies
  • Baby Clothes (onesies, socks, booties, soft toys, hats, sun clothes, receiving blankets)
  • Kid-sized crocs or flip-flops
  • Over-the-counter Medications (Tylenol, Advil, Naproxen, Claritin, Zyrtec, Triple Antibiotic Ointment)
  • Zip Lock Baggies (Quarter, Gallon, Sandwich and snack size)
Bringing donations to our #DisneySide Celebration is certainly optional and up to each guest to make that decision for themselves. We certainly want everyone to come and have a good time!
Who Else is Showing their Generous #DisneySide?
Our Celebration is still intended to be entertaining for all! We’ll be playing Disney Mania music, there will be a bouncy house, balloons, and games to entertain the kids; Cupcakes to celebrate our daughter’s Birthday; and a Raffle for the adults thanks to the generosity of these great sponsors:
Mickey Adventures has donated a Gift Certificate for $100 off any Disney Vacation (winner may choose any Disney destination – Walt Disney World, Disneyland, a Disney Cruise or an Adventure by Disney.) We love Mickey Adventures because their services are free, they’re always on top of the latest Disney deals (and they’ll apply any deals/discounts to your existing reservation should a deal be released after you’ve already booked!), and they’ll help you plan the vacation you want – from dining reservations to park touring plans! Using a no-fee Disney Vacation Specialist is the way to go when you want to take a Disney vacation!
Little VIP Bandz has donated a Disney-themed Gift Basket! I discovered Little VIP Bandz last Summer, and decided to give them a try. They make wrist-bands for children to wear in crowded locations – such as Walt Disney World, amusement parks, town fairs, malls – anywhere that has the potential for crowded conditions and there’s a chance that a child may get lost. These wrist-bands are tear-resistant and water-proof, and contain a designated space for a phone number to be written. We certainly had peace of mind visiting Walt Disney World and knowing that our little ones had our cell phone #’s attached to them!
Walter & Rosie has donated their newly created scented candle “Frozen” to be raffled off! I’ve already got it in my possession, and let me just say – it smells great! Walter & Rosie makes their own candles, soaps, and wax tarts and ensures that they are 100% soy, animal friendly, and all-natural! It’s truly a win-win, as they’re making organic products and we get to enjoy them! WDW Hints fans especially love their Disney-inspired scented candles!
PassPorter has donated several books to be given away not only at our celebration, but also on the blog (giveaway coming soon!) PassPorter’s 2014 WDW Guidebook has recently been released and, as usual, it’s probably the best resource out there when wanting to physically thumb through a book that contains just about everything about the Walt Disney World Resort. From resorts to restaurants to park attractions – using their guidebooks are a must before stepping foot on Disney Property!

Christian book author, Angela D. Meyer, is allowing us to raffle off an autographed copy of Where Hope Starts. While it is not Disney-themed, it is certainly an attention-grabbing book (one that I could NOT put down!!) We interviewed Angela and reviewed her book back in September, and we’re so happy she’s giving us another copy of Where Hope Starts for this fun event! We understand that a few guests attending our DisneySide Celebration may not be huge Disney fans (and that’s okay!), therefore this book may be a more appealing raffle prize.

Our #DisneySide Gift to YOU!
It’s not a true Celebration if we can’t include everyone! While it would be impossible to round up all of our fans for a #DisneySide Celebration, we do think of you often! Our new graphic designer, Catie, is so sweet… In addition to designing the invitations for our #DisneySide Celebration… she also had YOU in mind. She created these two Frozen-themed Facebook covers for you to download and use, if you wish. (Click on the cover picture for the full size.)
