The Optimist Project – A New Interactive Experience

Disney is offering a new way to interact and experience “Disney Magic.” Have you ever wanted to keep the magic alive even when you’re NOT on vacation? This is a perfect opportunity!

Walt Disney Imagineering R&D and Disney Studios have joined to offer a new game called “The Optimist”. It’s designed to join historical facts, the promise of the future and fictional characters by engaging players to uncover secrets both online and in the real world.

To get started head over to optimist.disney.com which details the experience like this:

“The worlds of yesterday, tomorrow, and fantasy were only the beginning…

Walter Elias Disney was an optimist who believed in creating a living blueprint for the future. He and his Imagineers – those creative and skilled professional wizards who combine imagination and engineering – made fantasy into reality and built the magic of the Disney Theme Parks. But, what if that was just the beginning?

Amelia, a young filmmaker, has stumbled upon a revolutionary secret…and she needs your help. Collaborate with other curious individuals around the globe to solve a mystery that traverses the web, Disneyland® Park, and beyond before culminating at the D23 Expo.

Join Amelia and explore Walt Disney’s secrets of Tomorrow…”

You begin by following Amelia as she sifts through old boxes of her Grandpa’s “stuff” which, coincidentally, leads you to discovering new information about the ’64 Expo.

D23 announced the new game Monday (July 8, 2013) on their website and described it in this way:

“In this alternate reality experience, one of our characters has discovered some previously unknown facts that could change what we think we know about Walt Disney, Imagineering and Disneyland Park,” “Players can participate at different levels of engagement over the six-week story—from leveraging social media and mobile devices to visiting unique physical sites from the story in and around Los Angeles.”

This means that you cater the game to how YOU want to play. You have the option to delve deep into the new findings and be among the first to discover just what they mean or you can take a more laid-back approach and observe as everyone learns together.

D23 also noted that while some characters and situations in The Optimist are based on real people and events, the overall experience is fictitious and does not intend to represent historical accuracy.
