501 Ways to Make the Most of Your Walt Disney World Vacation is divided into 6 chapters: (1) Before You Arrive, (2) Magic Kingdom, (3) Epcot, (4) Hollywood Studios, (5) Animal Kingdom and (6) Mousecellaneous. The chapter, Before You Arrive, is filled with helpful packing tips (such as pack more prescription meds than necessary), planning tips (such as how many days should you stay) and budget saving tips (such as if the Dining Plan is right for you.) I appreciate Kristi’s honesty when she explains how the Disney Dining Plan isn’t always such a great idea for those who are on a budget – it’s certainly helpful to know that if you’re not likely to normally eat that much food, it’s probably best to just pay for what you’ll actually eat and skip the Dining Plan.

The practical advice offered is great too – don’t start any new medications right before or during your vacation, don’t try to potty train a child while on vacation (save it for when you get home), and I’ll throw in some advice as well – don’t switch your baby from formula to whole milk while on vacation. I witnessed my own sister try to do this with her 1 year old daughter earlier this month, it made for a miserable week of horribly messy diapers, an agitated baby and more money spent buying formula from an over-priced grocery store. It’s best if you can follow a known routine for physical, medical, dietary and nap schedules – those are things you can usually control – leave any ‘experimental adjustments’ for when you return home.

The 4 chapters focused on the parks are full of fun tips such as quiet places to seek out, seating advice for shows, and ride recommendations for all sorts of age groups.

The final chapter, Mousecellaneous, offers tips on things to do and see at the Resorts, budget tips (such as eat lunch rather than dinner at a popular restaurant), items to pack for a day in the parks, hydration & snacking tips, and much more mousecellaneous fun!

501 Ways… is a great book for planners, an easy read and it’s the type of book you can pick up to read in-between errands, waiting at appointments, while taking a work break, etc. It’s very easy to pick-up where you left off and continue expanding your Disney knowledge!

Just one Complaint – and it’s My Fault…

My only complaint is that I didn’t ask for Kristi to autograph my copy of this book! However, when I received her book, a note was included – signed by Kristi. I’ll at least keep the note tucked in the book.  ;o)
