Have You Seen Cinderella’s Ponies?

After moving to Florida so we could try to do Disney daily, we soon discovered some hidden treasures that as vacationers we hadn’t been aware of. You see after all our years of coming to Walt Disney World on family vacations, we had never resort hopped. We knew each Disney resort offered something different and magical for visitors, but since we weren’t staying at a resort, we just didn’t ever think to head over to any of them and look around. Maybe we were naive, but from what we have heard from many of our readers, they too didn’t realize you could do this or to even think of doing this.

Back in September 2012, one of the treasures we discovered on a day of resort hopping is at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campgrounds. You see we discovered the Tri-Circle-D Farm where all the Disney horses reside.

You are allowed, no, encouraged, to walk around the horse area and interact with the horses and the trainers. While we were there, we met Ray. He is one of the trainers of horses at Disney, and he let us know that all the white ponies are actually Cinderella’s. You see they pull Cinderella’s carriage!

If you want to let your children do a pony ride here, you can. They are $5 and while your child sits on the horse, Ray or another trainer will guide your child and horse through the fenced in horse area.

He also told us about the Clydesdale horses in the horse barn, right beside the pony area. You are allowed to go in and look at the horses, but they ask that you do not touch them. While this sounds like an easy rule to follow, I will tell you that both times we have been there to visit, there has been one horse in particular sticking his head over the door, begging us to pet him. We haven’t, but it was VERY difficult not to!

One of the fun little facts about these Clydesdales, they are the same horses used during the Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween party parade, that the Headless Horseman rides. You can even catch a glimpse of Ray at the parade, he has to stay close to the horses while they are working. If you haven’t seen Cinderella’s Ponies before, and you are traveling with a princess loving little girl, I highly suggest you make the quick trip over to Fort Wilderness to see them. From Magic Kingdom, take the friendship boat to Fort Wilderness. After arrival, take the path to the right, past the Hoop Dee Doo Revue and look for the signs to the Tri-Circle-D Farm. You can’t miss it.
