Are you headed down to the Walt Disney World Resort® this March? Lucky you – March is a great time to visit!! With average high temperatures in the upper 70s and lows in the upper 50’s (plus not too much rain!) it is a great time to get out and explore the Parks without having to worry about the weather!! The animals at Disney’s Animal Kingdom® will be more active, the Water Parks will be more inviting, and (to me anyway) sweatshirts and shorts is the perfect outfit to watch Wishes® or Fantasmic® in!!
Crowd Levels and Park Hours
March is typically a lower than average to average month in terms of crowd estimates – especially if you are going in the beginning of the month, before Spring Breaks schedules kick in across the country. This year, however, since Easter falls on March 31st, the last week of the month will be exceptionally busy.
With Daylight Savings Time ending on March 10th, the Parks will stay open later – and on some days will even be operating on their summer hours. This also means that evening events, such as Wishes®, the Main Street Electrical Parade, and Fantasmic® will be scheduled for later as well. With the additional crowds projected, Walt Disney World® has added additional Extra Magic Hours® for those Guests staying on property, so be sure to take advantage of those if you can!
Making advanced dining reservations and utilizing FastPass® are also critical during busy times. Walt Disney World® is currently testing it’s new system, where Guests can actually pre-schedule their FastPasses and make an advanced reservation for the rides! This new system will help insure that you get to ride the rides you want, when you want to ride them, so keep posted for more information on this new system. It will help out a lot on those especially crowded days!!
Savings
Holidays are usually the most expensive time to visit Walt Disney World®, but this year they offering spring savings specials for most nights, and most resorts, through March 23rd, and additional savings if you add tickets as well. These opportunities do not cover Easter Week, but they may save you some money on your spring break plans!
Events
The Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival presented by HGTV kicks off on March 6th and goes through May 19, 2013. This annual event features HGTV and DIY Network designer presentations and educational workshops, themed garden, flower, and topiary displays, interactive play areas for kids, as well as concerts by some of your favorite 1960’s and 70’s bands!
Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day at Raglan Road Irish Pub & Restaurant in Downtown Disney – Pleasure Island. There will be lots of entertainment, including a special appearance by U2 tribute band, Elevation! Or, head to World Showcase’s United Kingdom Pavilion and join the St. Patrick’s Day festivities.
Catch a pre-season baseball game! Atlanta Braves Spring Training will return to the Walt Disney World® Resort for their 16th season of spring training this year. Head over to the Champion Stadium at ESPN’s Wide World of Sports Complex to catch a game, and cheer your favorite team on. The schedule for this year’s games can be found here.
There are lots of special ways to celebrate Easter at the Walt Disney World® Resort! There are special meet and greets with Mr. & Mrs. Easter Bunny at the Magic Kingdom the week before the big day, and they will be over at the UK Pavilion on Easter Sunday signing autographs as well. Easter Egg Hunts and relays, Egg Decorating, and bunny ring and beanbag tosses are held on Easter Sunday at the UK Pavilion, Innoventions East, and many of the hotels as well. Characters are dressed up in their holiday finest, and there is an extra pre-parade down Main Street before the 3:00 parade. Special meals are offered (reservations required) and there are both Catholic and Protestant services on property as well. Plus, who knows what “Limited Time Magic” they have up their sleeves this year – I am sure it will be great!
