Holidays at Walt Disney World

As the Fourth of July approaches every year, I am reminded of the wonderful summer I spent as a cast member at Walt Disney World. I loved seeing Cinderella Castle lit red, white and blue every evening around the holiday. Disney World celebrates holidays with magic you can expect only from Disney. If you’re thinking of traveling to Disney around your favorite holiday, here are some holiday events to look for on your vacation.

St. Patrick’s Day – Dress in green and celebrate with an Irish twist at Raglan Road in Downtown Disney or in the United Kingdom Pavilion in Epcot. They’ll both have Irish dancing, music and plenty of beer.

Easter – Meet Mr. and Mrs. Bunny during Easter at the Magic Kingdom.  Many locations will offer special Easter brunches and some resorts will host Easter egg hunts.

Fourth of July – Fireworks are the name of the game for your Fourth of July at Walt Disney World.  You know how amazing fireworks are normally at Walt Disney World? Well, the fireworks on July 4th are out of this world! You’ll also find patriotic fireworks at Hollywood Studios and Epcot.

Halloween – Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween party takes place on select nights at the Magic Kingdom throughout September, October and at the beginning of November. Everyone is welcome to come in costume, trick or treat for candy and visit with characters you won’t normally see in the parks. There is also an amazing Halloween theme parade during the party. This event is not included in your regular ticket price, so you’ll need to decide if you want the added expense.

Thanksgiving – Traditional Thanksgiving dinners are available at select restaurants at Walt Disney World.  As always, you’ll want to make reservations as early as possible,

Christmas – As you can expect, there is nothing quite like Disney World at Christmastime.  To make the holiday magic last, Christmas at Disney starts shortly after Halloween.  There are a variety of special events to enjoy.

  • Epcot – While at Epcot, enjoy Holidays Around The World, with tastes of Christmas traditions from around the globe. You’ll be able to hear the Christmas Story every night at Epcot’s Candlelight Processional, often read by celebrity narrators.  There are also seasonal concerts to enjoy.
  • Magic Kingdom – Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party takes place on select evenings in November and December with parades, characters and, of course, Santa!  This event requires it’s own ticket for entrance.
  • Hollywood Studios – The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights is an amazing display of holiday lights on the Streets of America at Hollywood Studios.  They are lit nightly and should not be missed!
  • Animal Kingdom – Holiday decor goes up around the park. Be sure to get into the Holiday Spirit with Mickey’s Jingle Jungle Parade!

New Year’s Eve – Most of the parks at Walt Disney World will be open past midnight for special celebrations on New Year’s Eve.  (Most likely the animals at the Animal Kingdom are not night owls, so that park won’t be open that late!) Enjoy fireworks and celebrations at the Magic Kingdom, Epcot and Hollywood Studios.

Do you have a favorite holiday at Walt Disney World?  I don’t think anything tops Halloween at Disney World!

Happy holidays,
Amy
